Why Am I Doing This?

To mike a voice. To support those willing to risk voicing the unconventional thought.

Because there is a void in the publishing world, performance poetry is virtually undocumented.  Women and less traditional poets are under published. So I got pissed and ranted about it and then I just decided to do something about it, and started publishing the underdog.

Every accreditation one puts on their resume helps one move forward and cues others to take them seriously. Poets can site being part of the Rant collaborative as an accomplishment. They can go to our website and show others their work and be seen as serious artists.

Eventually we will publish a book and the implications of that are limitless. Hopefully we can share performance poetry with people who aren’t able to attend shows. Let’s give everyone a taste of the New York City art we all hold dear. I’d like to get a book distributed out in the heartland and even pervade suburbia. The small towns need some ranting too - don’t you think? I do.

I am asking for naked poetry; the kind of work that ruffles feathers. I will stand behind my poets. Even if I don’t agree with a poet’s views, I commend their openness and their courage. If you take offence, I urge you to write a Rant in response and perform it, and I will stand behind you.

If you’re an wacko who writes poems about killing babies or a poem that promotes bigotry or violence, be sure the Rant Staff, including myself, will have something to say about it. And we will say it amped up behind the mike, we will say it for an audience to witness and we will publish it… fair warning.

Rant On,
